Wilhelm von Hessen (1787-1867) was a titular landgrave of Hessen-Kassel from the Hessen-Rumpenheim side line and governor of Copenhagen. He inherited the title of Landgrave from his father Frederick III of Hesse-Kassel-Rumpenheim (1747-1837) in 1837. He was married to Princess Charlotte of Denmark (1789-1864), daughter of the Danish Hereditary Prince Friedrich.
Pierre Baucair (1696-1775) and his son Isaak Baucair (1753-1793) produced a number of silver objects for the court of the Landgraves of Hesse-Kassel in their joint workshop. Among them were several silver coffee pots, lidded bowls and other silver utensils for Landgrave Wilhelm VIII, the great-grandfather of Landgrave Wilhelm of Hesse-Kassel zu Rumpenheim, who was later monogrammed here.
